Representative Greg Casar has supported working families from San Antonio to East Austin throughout his career in public service. As an organizer, former member of the Austin City Council, and the proud son of Mexican immigrants, he has successfully fought to expand civil rights protections and has consistently worked to keep his community safe. While serving his constituents on the city council, Representative Casar supported the creation of a Gun Violence Task Force in Austin, successfully expanded and funded gun violence reduction programs, established the nation’s first mental health services available directly at 911, created an Office of Police Oversight and reformed use-of-force policies, greatly expanded family violence shelters, and helped create a new city-wide Office of Violence Prevention. 

In Congress, he’s continued this important work by cosponsoring lifesaving measures like the Kimberly Vaughan Firearm Safe Storage Act, the AMMO Act, the Keep Americans Safe Act, the Assault Weapons Ban, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act, Ethan’s Law, the Office of Gun Violence Prevention Act, and the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. He knows that we must do more to prevent tragedies like the ones that have torn communities across his home state apart—from Uvalde to El Paso—and keep our kids safe. As part of a new generation of leaders in Congress, he’ll continue to make gun safety a top priority if reelected.

Now more than ever, Texans deserve leaders who will always put their safety above all else—and in Representative Casar, they finally have a congressman capable of doing just that.
