As ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, Representative Jerry Nadler has worked diligently to channel anguish into action and save lives across the country from senseless gun violence by passing landmark legislation. For several sessions, Representative Nadler has made it a top priority to advance the Bipartisan Background Checks Act to the House floor, a bill that would expand background checks to all gun sales and close dangerous loopholes in our laws that put our communities at risk. In 2022, Representative Nadler also introduced the Protecting Our Kids Act, one of the most all-encompassing, sweeping gun reform packages ever passed voted on in Washington DC. 

As one of Congress’s most prominent leaders in the fight to reform for stronger gun safety laws, Representative Nadler led the congressional debate on the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act last year. This lifesaving legislation directly addressed issues plaguing New York, like the scourge of gun trafficking, easy access to weapons for those who pose a risk to themselves or others, and inadequate funding for needed community violence intervention programs. 

Yet there are still so many more bills that the Judiciary Committee must advance to help curb America’s epidemic of gun violence, and it is imperative that we have strong leaders like Representative Nadler in office to help do just that. Voters across New York City must mobilize like never before to reelect Representative Jerry Nadler next fall—lives depend on it.
