Kristen McDonald Rivet

US House Michigan — 8th District Democrat
Open Seat2024
Through hard work and grit, State Senator Kristen McDonald Rivet’s family was able to achieve what she calls the Michigan Dream—to own a home, pay the bills, and live a happy life. Throughout her career, Senator McDonald Rivet has fought tirelessly to give back to her community and help people across her state achieve that same dream—and a core part of that work has been to prevent the kind of senseless gun violence that has devastated too many Michigan families.

As the executive director of Michigan Head Start, chief of staff for Michigan’s Department of Education, and vice president of the Skillman Foundation, Senator McDonald Rivet has always worked to make big changes in Michigan to improve outcomes for children—but nothing exemplifies this service better than her first act in the State Senate, which was to protect our kids by leading the successful effort to pass commonsense gun safety laws that require safe gun storage, implement universal background checks, and allow courts to temporarily remove guns from people deemed a risk to themselves or others. Now, she hopes to continue this important, lifesaving work in Congress, where she will fight against concealed carry reciprocity, make crucial investments in community violence intervention programs, and work to disarm domestic abusers.

Michigan’s Eighth District will be home to one of the closest races anywhere in the country this year—and it’s imperative that voters across mid-Michigan turn out like never before to keep a gun safety champion in this seat by electing State Senator Kristen McDonald Rivet in November. We know she’ll always stand up for what’s right and push back on the gun lobby’s dangerous agenda. With her leading the way on Capitol Hill, we know a safer future is within reach for every Michigander.

We are proud to endorse Kristen McDonald Rivet for the US House of Representatives.
