Born and raised in Brooklyn, Attorney General Letitia James is the first woman of color to hold statewide office in New York, and the first woman to be elected New York Attorney General. She previously served as a New York City Councilmember and as New York City Public Advocate. This fall, she is running for reelection to finish the job that New Yorkers chose her to do four years ago: to hold powers like the corporate gun lobby accountable and to make New York a more fair, more just, and safer place for all. 
 
As New New York’s chief law enforcement officer, Attorney General James has played a key role in busting major gun trafficking rings, taking down hundreds of illegal dealers and distributors in the process. Over the past four years, her office has removed over 3,000 illegal guns from the streets and cracked down on the proliferation of ghost guns by stopping 17 companies from selling untraceable gun parts online in New York. When New York’s concealed carry law was challenged in federal court, Attorney General James stepped up to defend it because she knows that it kept people across New York safe from harm. Like many, she views the Supreme Court’s move to invalidate that lifesaving law as dangerous and irresponsible.
 
Now more than ever, we must elect gun safety champions up and down the ballot to fight gun violence and hold the gun lobby accountable. Attorney General Letitia James has proven that she will always work to protect New York’s communities from the scourge of gun violence, and we know she’ll never back down from the fight to counter the gun lobby’s dangerous rhetoric and extremism.
