Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester has dedicated her life to public service and advancing the well-being and safety of Delawareans. Born and raised in Wilmington, she has consistently shown a deep commitment to the values of justice, equity, and progress and has pushed to improve gun laws so that no family has to know the pain of losing loved ones to senseless violence.
Just three years after her hometown was deemed “Murder Town, USA” by a national publication, Congresswoman Blunt Rochester made history in 2017 by becoming the first woman and the first African American to represent Delaware in Congress. In office, she’s made every effort to reverse the trends plaguing her hometown and has supported an assault weapons ban, universal background checks, and legislation to raise the firearm purchasing age from 18 to 21. She knows that gun violence is a public health issue and a matter of national security, and has worked across the aisle to pass critical legislation like the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the first major federal gun safety bill signed into law in nearly 30 years. Congresswoman Blunt Rochester also co-leads the Break the Cycle of Violence Act, a landmark piece of legislation that would allocate $5 billion for community-based violence intervention programs and $1.5 billion for youth workforce training.
Now more than ever, our country needs leaders in the Senate who will stand up to the gun lobby and continue to build a safer future for the next generation—starting with Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester. Voters across Delaware are demanding action, and with her helping to lead the charge for stronger gun laws, it’s clear that lifesaving progress is in reach.
