Congresswoman Lucy McBath has said that the most important title she will ever hold is “mom” to her son, Jordan Davis, who in 2012 was shot and killed at a gas station in Jacksonville, Florida, by a man objecting to the music Jordan was playing in his car. After her son’s murder, Congresswoman McBath promised Jordan that she would do everything in her power to keep her community safe and to prevent her family’s tragedy from reaching any other.
Like our founder, former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, Representative McBath turned her personal tragedy into a mission for action and change. She left her 30-year career as a flight attendant for a new journey focused on reforming our nation’s gun laws in an effort to make our communities safer for every single American. Demanding that our elected officials do more to stop the senseless tragedies occurring in our streets and schools, she began working for Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action, traveling throughout the country to rally activists, lawmakers, and, most importantly, fellow moms, to pass comprehensive gun safety laws.
When a gunman took the lives of 14 students and three faculty members in 2018 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, Congresswoman McBath watched as national leaders promised to take action, yet accomplished nothing. She decided that if our elected leaders wouldn’t stand up to the NRA and the gun lobby, she would run for office herself—and she won. Now, Congresswoman McBath is proud to serve a district that was once held by staunch Republicans like Newt Gingrich.
In Congress, Representative McBath has made passing solutions to help our children and families a top priority. She has had six of her bills signed into law, and she has worked on numerous pieces of legislation which have passed the House—including universal background checks for all gun sales and legislation to incentivize states to pass extreme risk protection orders to limit access to firearms for those who pose a threat to themselves or others. In 2021, Georgia Republicans—who view Congresswoman McBath’s efforts as a threat—redrew her district’s lines in an attempt to bar the congresswoman from winning reelection. This mom on a mission, however, will not let anything stand in her way. Now more than ever, we need to reelect gun violence prevention champions like Representative Lucy McBath to keep all of our children safe.

We are proud to endorse Lucy McBath for the United States House of Representatives.
