As a member of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force’s leadership team, and as the author of the Kelly Report on Gun Violence in America—an in-depth congressional analysis on gun violence in our country—Representative Robin Kelly is unparalleled in her efforts to bolster public safety and save lives for over a decade. In Congress, Representative Kelly has staunchly supported efforts to expand background checks, pass meaningful extreme risk legislation, ban assault weapons, prevent stalkers and abusive dating partners from possessing firearms, establish a federal gun trafficking statute, and require gun dealers to properly secure their inventory. 

She has been a leader in introducing lifesaving legislation, including the Federal Firearm Licensee Act, which would comprehensively update regulations for federal firearms licensees that have been undermined by rogue dealers and by advances in technology that have vastly outpaced the federal government’s regulatory response. In 2022, she helped break through the gridlock in Washington to pass the first major gun safety legislation to be signed into law in nearly 30 years: the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. This landmark legislation directly addressed the scourge of gun trafficking, enhanced background checks, and made the largest ever investment in community violence intervention programs in American history.
