Representative Scott Peters knows that we need to do more to keep our children safe from harm. He has been a strong supporter of gun safety measures since first coming to Congress in 2013, where he has worked diligently to pass the kinds of comprehensive reforms needed to curb America’s deadly epidemic of gun violence.
 
In June 2016, Representative Peters live streamed a sit-in on the House floor where he and fellow lawmakers urged Republican leaders to do their jobs. On numerous occasions, he has read the names of gun violence victims on the House floor to remind his colleagues of the human toll of their inaction. In office, Representative Peters has voted for every gun safety reform bill put before the House and he supports measures to ban assault weapons and bump stocks, enact universal background checks, and regulate ghost guns. In 2022, he was especially proud to help pass the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the first major gun safety legislation signed into law in nearly 30 years. Representatative Peters is also the lead author of the STANDUP Act, which became law in March 2022 and encourages schools to implement evidence-based suicide awareness and mental health training in grades 6–12. 
 
The 2024 election cycle is shaping up to be one of the closest in years, and it is incumbent on all of us to ensure that Congress is once again able to enact meaningful gun safety reforms by reestablishing a gun safety majority in the US House this November. Representative Scott Peters knows that inaction on gun violence is simply not an option, and in order to continue making progress towards a nation free from gun violence, we must reelect him this fall.
