Congresswoman Val Hoyle always leads with her values, and she has a demonstrated record of standing up for Oregon’s children and families. As a state representative, majority leader of the Oregon House of Representatives, her state’s labor commissioner, and now in the US House, Congresswoman Hoyle has consistently strived to keep her constituents safe and has taken numerous steps to combat senseless gun violence.
In the state legislature, Congresswoman Hoyle led efforts to pass Oregon’s universal background checks law, and she also played a crucial role in securing the votes necessary to prohibit individuals with a record of domestic violence restraining orders from possessing a firearm. Like many leaders in this movement, Congresswoman Hoyle’s work to pass commonsense gun safety legislation was met with protests from the gun lobby and its enablers, and she was forced to beat back an unsuccessful recall attempt against her—illustrating her determination in the fight to end America’s gun violence epidemic.
As Oregon’s labor commissioner—a role in which she oversaw the state’s labor force, helped support local businesses, and ensured the fair treatment of workers—Congresswoman Hoyle placed a significant focus on suicide prevention and mental health awareness among apprentices in the skilled trades. In Washington DC, Congresswoman Hoyle has used her own experiences as a responsible gun owner to inform her work, and she’s been a vocal supporter of measures to expand background checks to all gun sales, close loopholes in our laws that allow guns to fall into the wrong hands, and strengthen safe storage requirements.
This November, we must flip control of the House and reelect committed gun safety champions with a record of service and wins, like Congresswoman Hoyle. Republicans have targeted this seat for years, and we cannot let them roll back our progress on this issue. Congresswoman Val Hoyle has proven time and again that she can overcome enormous odds, and we know she is the exactly the right candidate to win in November. She will always be a voice for gun safety, and Oregonian families will be safer as a result of her leadership.
