Vice Mayor Yassamin Ansari made history as the youngest woman ever elected to the Phoenix City Council—where she has proudly represented one of the most diverse districts in the fifth-largest and fastest-growing city in the country. In doing this work, she’s taken on some of the toughest challenges facing Arizona and delivered strong results for her community on some of the most intractable issues of the day—including the gun violence epidemic.

Throughout her career, Ansari has consistently made public safety a top priority and striven to ensure the safety of children and families across Phoenix. In 2023, she hosted a three-part gun safety education series with gun safety groups, school board members and local community leaders to educate everyday Arizonans on gun safety measures for schools and homes and to spread awareness for continued action at the state and local level. These are the same types of collective action that Ansari hopes to bring to Washington DC as Phoenix’s voice in Congress—where she’ll proudly champion gun safety measures to ban the sale of assault weapons, strengthen background check requirements, raise the age to purchase certain firearms to 21, and close loopholes that allow domestic abusers and those who wish to harm themselves or others to access weapons. 

With gun violence continuing to take far too many lives each day, it’s imperative that voters across the country reinstate a gun safety majority in the US House this November—starting with electing Vice Mayor Yassamin Ansari in Arizona’s Third District. She knows that it’s a moral failure that gun violence is the number one killer of kids in our country, and we know that if elected she will always stand up to the gun lobby and help build a safer future for the next generation.
