GIFFORDS Gun Owners for Safety Respond to New Anti-Safety Group

Washington DC — Today, GIFFORDS, the national gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, responded to a new pro-gun lobby organization, the so-called Secure Our Freedom Alliance, running ads in swing states. According to Axios, the group is led by Chris Cox, a former top National Rifle Association official who described disgraced leader Wayne LaPierre as “like family.”

“Take it from me as a longtime gun owner—Pennsylvania gun owners know a shady front group when they see one,” said Ken Wolfe of Pennsylvania GIFFORDS Gun Owners for Safety. “Gun owners know our laws are riddled with loopholes that allow people with a history of violence to easily access guns. Like me, they are fed up with politicians who put profits over people and oppose commonsense solutions that would reduce gun violence and save lives.”

“This group is just another gun lobby con job. As a proud gun owner and NRA-trained private pistol and gun safety instructor, I know what Michigan gun owners care about,” said Jon Gold of Michigan GIFFORDS Gun Owners for Safety. “We value our freedom. The freedom to do what we want with our time, to decide what’s best for our family, to live free from gun violence. We know that keeping our families safe means closing loopholes that allow people with a history of violence to get their hands on a gun. Gun lobby front groups like this are irresponsible and their practices lead to reckless gun use and gun violence.”
