GUN SAFETY VICTORY: Elissa Slotkin elected to the US Senate
WASHINGTON – GIFFORDS, the national gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, congratulated Sen.-elect Elissa Slotkin on her election to serve the people of Michigan in the US Senate. Slotkin’s campaign was the first endorsement GIFFORDS PAC made of this campaign cycle, and the gun safety organization has been heavily involved in her race. Former Congresswoman Giffords campaigned together with Slotkin and on her behalf several times throughout the 2024 cycle. This October, Slotkin also joined the launch of GIFFORDS Gun Owners for Harris Walz in Detroit.
“Congratulations to my friend, Senator-elect Elissa Slotkin on her hard-fought victory. Elissa’s candidacy was the first endorsement we made this cycle because we know how personal the gun safety fight is for her, and I had the pleasure of joining her on the campaign trail many times over the past year and a half. There is no one who will fight harder to stop gun violence. Elissa has seen how violence has torn communities apart from Detroit and Grand Rapids to Lansing and Oxford. I am so proud we will have her fighting for commonsense gun safety in the U.S. Senate,” said former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords.
Slotkin is the first member of Congress to have two school shootings in her district at Oxford High School and Michigan State University. In Congress, she has worked diligently to honor the lives of those lost across Michigan with action by voting for legislation like the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act and leading commonsense bills like the Safe Guns, Safe Kids Act and the Gun Violence Prevention Research Act.
