GUN SAFETY VICTORY: George Whitesides elected to California’s 27th Congressional District

GIFFORDS PAC invested more than $1 million in the race to elect Whitesides

WASHINGTON —GIFFORDS, the national gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, congratulated Rep.-elect George Whitesides on his victory in California’s 27th Congressional District. GIFFORDS invested more than $1 million in support of Whitesides as part of its $15 million commitment to electing and supporting gun safety champions in 2024.

“I am pleased to congratulate Rep.-elect George Whitesides on his victory in California. His win will be critical to continuing the progress we’ve made on gun violence in Congress — and Californians can rest easier knowing they once again have a champion fighting on their behalf in Washington,” said former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “GIFFORDS was proud to support Whitesides’ election and we look forward to working with him in the fight to end gun violence and create safer communities for our children.”

For Whitesides and CA-27, this issue is personal. In 2019, a shooter armed with a homemade ghost gun took the lives of two innocent students and wounded several others at Saugus High School in Santa Clarita, rocking the community and changing the trajectory of numerous lives. Having seen this pain inflicted on too many families and children across Southern California, Whitesides is determined to push for meaningful solutions to end America’s epidemic of gun violence once and for all—including expanding background checks to all gun sales, disarming domestic abusers and those who pose a threat to themselves or others and fully funding community violence intervention programs. As a parent himself, Whitesides knows that we owe it to our children to get this lifesaving work done so the next generation can grow up free from the emotional trauma of active shooter drills and the daily threat of violence.
