Amy Laufer knows that responsible gun ownership is a way of life for rural communities and she respects the rights of her constituents to use and own firearms. Yet she’s also acutely aware that gun violence has become the leading cause of death for American children and that too many firearms end up in the hands of people who wish to harm themselves or others. Like so many in this movement, Laufer knows that unlocked firearms without proper safety devices have exposed too many children to unintentional injury and that more must be done to keep our communities safe. As a former member of the Charlottesville School Board, Laufer helped implement programs to teach students and parents about the necessity of gun safety laws. Now she’s running for the House of Delegates to strengthen Virginia’s extreme risk laws, crack down on gun trafficking, and ban dangerous assault weapons. This fall, we must flip the Virginia House of Delegates to give champions like Amy Laufer the ability to enact these lifesaving measures and help ensure that every family can live free from the threat of gun violence.
