Curtis Hertel

US House Michigan — 7th District Democrat
Challenger2024
Former state senator Curtis Hertel is a relentless advocate for mid-Michigan families who believes that the only way to accomplish shared goals is to listen to others and work together to achieve real results. It’s this method of pushing for change that has made him so effective at addressing some of the most pressing issues facing Michiganders of all stripes—including gun violence.

For Senator Hertel, the issue of gun violence is deeply personal. When a gunman killed three innocent students and wounded five others on Michigan State University’s campus in February of 2023, Senator Hertel spent hours fearing for the safety of his son on campus. It’s a feeling that far too many parents across the country have had to endure in recent years—and Senator Hertel is committed to improving America’s gun laws so that no other father has to go through what he did. In fact, he’s already started to do just that in Michigan, where he led Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s policy team in passing one of the most comprehensive bipartisan state-level gun safety packages signed into law in recent history, which included universal background checks, improved safe storage laws and a strong statewide extreme risk protection order law. Senator Hertel’s work has already saved lives throughout his state, but he’s not done yet. In Congress, he’ll work to implement similar measures at the national level and will never stop fighting to keep dangerous weapons out of the hands of those seeking to harm themselves or others.

In recent election cycles, Michigan’s 7th District has been home to some of the closest races in the country. We must protect this crucial battleground seat in 2024 by sending Curtis Hertel to Washington DC. He’ll always put the safety of his constituents first and stand firm against the corrupt rhetoric and actions of the corporate gun lobby.

We are proud to endorse Curtis Hertel for the US House of Representatives.
