Throughout his career, Representative Dan Goldman has always strived to ensure that justice is done. As the lead counsel for the first impeachment investigation of President Donald Trump and as an assistant United States attorney in the Southern District of New York, Representative Goldman took on some of the toughest cases within our legal system. In these roles, he worked to keep New Yorkers safe and hold bad actors accountable—often working to prosecute violent criminals and gun traffickers.
In Washington DC, he’s continued to put service to his community first. Like so many Americans, Representative Goldman knows that we are failing the next generation if we do not do more on gun safety—and in Congress, he’s made saving lives a top priority as vice chair of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force and chair of the Dads Caucus Gun Violence Prevention Working Group. He’s introduced transformative legislation like the PROSPER Act, to invest in community-based organizations fighting on the front lines to prevent gun violence, and the Preventing Pretrial Gun Purchases Act, to deny firearm sales to any person subject to a pretrial release court order that prohibits the person from purchasing, possessing, or receiving guns while awaiting trial. Representative Goldman has also championed commonsense proposals to curtail our epidemic of violence, including banning assault weapons, implementing background checks on all gun sales, prohibiting ghost guns and large-capacity ammunition, and repealing the 2005 Protection of Commerce in Lawful Arms Act that provides federal immunity for gun manufacturers and dealers.
New Yorkers know better than most that our weak federal gun laws pose a real danger to their state. They deserve a champion in Washington DC who will always fight to protect the lives of children and families, and voters in New York City have a chance to reinstate an action-oriented gun safety majority in the House by reelecting Representative Dan Goldman to Congress. With him continuing to advocate for progress on this issue in office, we know that real progress in the fight to end gun violence is possible.
