Since he was elected to the Virginia Senate in a 2010 special election, Senator Dave Marsden has earned a reputation in Richmond as a hardworking legislator who gets things done for Fairfax County and the Commonwealth. With decades of experience working on public safety issues as the first superintendent of Fairfax County’s Juvenile Detention Center and as the Obama Administration’s technical assistance director for the National Forum on Violence, Senator Marsden knows that the issue of gun violence is complex, but not unsolvable—if our legislators put progress above partisanship. In office, he has done just that, working with anyone who will listen on an array of gun safety issues, from addressing the epidemic of guns being stolen from cars, which often land in the hands of kids or criminals, to passing some of the most consequential gun safety laws in Virginia’s history, like measures to implement universal background checks and a statewide extreme risk law. While Senator Marsden is proud of the progress that’s been made through recent gun safety legislation, he understands that there is still much work to be done to ensure a safer Virginia. This fall, it’s imperative that voters join together to reelect this dedicated gun safety champion so he can continue the important work of saving lives throughout the Commonwealth.
