As leader of the House Democratic Caucus, Leader Don Scott has made historic strides in the fight to end gun violence in Virginia. He’s committed to preventing future tragedies and reducing crime across the Commonwealth so future generations have every opportunity to grow and thrive free from the fear of being shot. Throughout his time in Richmond, Leader Scott has championed the assault weapon ban and proudly supported the law requiring background checks for all firearm sales, which closed the gun show loophole and expanded these crucial checks to private sales. He also supported the law limiting handgun purchases to one per month to combat illegal firearms trafficking, which reduces the risk of individuals stockpiling weapons for nefarious purposes. Leader Scott was integral in passing lifesaving extreme risk laws as well, which empower law enforcement authorities to temporarily remove firearms from high-risk individuals who pose a danger to themselves or others. Voters must make sure that come 2024, Leader Don Scott has a gun safety majority behind him to continue this important work—our communities can’t wait, and lives depend on it.
