Born and raised in Prince William County, Senator Jeremy McPike is a true public servant who is deeply embedded in the communities he represents. As a longtime volunteer firefighter, director of general services for the City of Alexandria, and a father with kids in the Virginia school system, he knows firsthand the need to address high rates of gun violence across the Commonwealth.
In 2015, Senator McPike made history by handily winning an off-year election against a popular mayor in which he made the need to pass gun safety laws a top issue. That year, his successful campaign was one of Giffords PAC’s top priorities, and we’ve been proud to work with him in Richmond ever since. In office, Senator McPike has been an outspoken gun safety champion, authoring crucial legislation, later signed into law, to remove the option to take an online concealed carry permit course. He has also sponsored numerous pieces of legislation focusing on preventing gun violence in public places like government buildings and places of worship, and he supported the passage of some of the most consequential gun safety bills in Virginia’s history—including measures to implement universal background checks and a statewide extreme risk law. With our gun safety Senate majority on the line this fall, voters must continue to turn out for the leaders who put their safety first—like Senator Jeremy McPike.
