Senator Maggie Hassan is a proud supporter of gun safety reforms and has a strong record of pushing for commonsense measures to prevent gun violence. In 2016, she was elected to represent New Hampshire in the United States Senate, winning one of the most competitive senate races in the country by just 1,017 votes. As a result of her win, Senator Hassan became only the second woman in American history to be elected as both governor and senator of her state. 

Senator Hassan is committed to keeping America safe, secure, and free—and as part of that commitment, she has strongly supported meaningful solutions to bring an end to our country’s epidemic of gun violence. In her current capacity,  Senator Hassan has pushed for requiring background checks for all gun sales and banning high-capacity magazines. She has also encouraged states to pass extreme risk laws and supported legislation that will close a dangerous loophole that currently allows domestic abusers to own lethal weapons. As a pragmatic legislator, Senator Hassan knows that ending gun violence should be a bipartisan issue, and she has worked across the aisle to push for more funding to improve the federal background check system and the enforcement of gun laws.
