As a doctor for over 35 years, Tom Sherman treats everyone who’s needed it and always tackles the tough issues head-on. Dr. Sherman knows firsthand that gun deaths are a public health concern and that far too many Americans know what it’s like to lose a loved one to senseless violence. His own family has come far too close to four mass tragedies, including a mass shooting in Santa Barbara where his son was just a block away and could hear the gunshots. After spending a decade split between working in the state house and state senate, Dr. Sherman is running for governor to create a safer New Hampshire for all. 
 
Like many of his fellow Granite Staters, Dr. Sherman grew up shooting with his dad—so he understands the importance of the rights of responsible gun owners while still supporting commonsense steps to prevent gun violence. In the state legislature, Dr. Sherman has championed measures to expand background checks and waiting periods so that those who seek to do harm to themselves or others don’t have easy access to firearms. He’s also fought to protect children in their classrooms, supporting bills that would make school buildings gun-free zones. Dr. Sherman understands that gun violence prevention must be a key part of any public safety agenda, and has consistently worked with police chiefs in New Hampshire to make sure they have the support and resources they need to crack down on illegal gun trafficking.
