Representative Valerie Foushee is a dedicated public servant who has served her community in elected office for 25 years. After getting her start as a member of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School Board, Representative Foushee went on to become the first Black woman to chair the Orange County Commission, and served for a decade in the North Carolina General Assembly. She was later appointed to the North Carolina State Senate in 2013, and she’s been a passionate advocate for gun safety measures throughout her storied career.

Now, Representative Foushee has taken the fight for safer communities to Congress, where she’s consistently put the well-being and safety of her constituents first and frequently stood up against bad faith attacks on our nation’s gun laws. In Washington DC, she has pushed for the passage of commonsense gun safety laws at the national level as a member of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, including the expansion of background checks and a ban on assault weapons. If reelected, she’s committed to getting measures across the finish line to fund community violence intervention programs, disarm domestic abusers, and close the Charleston Loophole once and for all.

North Carolinians deserve an elected official who will always put their interests ahead of those of the gun lobby.
