Jason Phelps is the deputy communications director at Giffords. For over two years, Jason has helped guide the organization’s press strategy and elevate the national conversation about gun safety. He coordinates with the team of experts at Giffords Law Center and Giffords to get coverage of their work and ensure their cutting-edge analysis reaches a wide audience. Jason also helps oversee large-scale public campaigns—from the nationwide push to elect gun safety champions in 2018, to the rollout of Giffords Law Center reports, to the 2020 gun safety presidential forum.
Before joining Giffords, Jason worked for a variety of elected officials, from the Minnesota State Capitol to the halls of Congress. His last position on Capitol Hill was as communications director for Congressman Derek Kilmer (D-WA), where he oversaw both national and state media relations for the representative. Jason is a native of St. Paul, Minnesota.
