Release: Gabby Giffords and Mark Kelly to Visit Gun Show with A.G. Schneiderman in Saratoga Springs, NY

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and retired astronaut and combat veteran Captain Mark Kelly will tour the Saratoga Springs Arms Fair on Sunday, October 13 at 12:00pm with New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman. Following the tour, A.G. Schneiderman, former Rep. Giffords and Captain Kelly will hold a press availability in the lobby of the City Center. Saratoga Springs native, Pia Carusone, who served as Giffords’ Chief of Staff during her time in Congress and is now the Executive Director of ARS, will also be made available to media.

“At the federal level we still have no requirement for background checks at gun shows, but states like New York are fixing the loophole. The state’s model helps keep guns out of the hands of people who shouldn’t have them – like criminals and the dangerously mentally ill – without infringing on our Second Amendment rights,” said Captain Mark Kelly, co-founder of Americans for Responsible Solutions. “This is a chance for Gabby and I to visit New York’s largest arms fair and highlight this background checks system, which we believe can serve as a template for gun shows around the country.”

The visit serves as an opportunity to discuss a model for background checks at gun shows now in place at the Saratoga Springs Arms Fair that ensures all gun purchases get background checks quickly and easily.
