New Research: Oregon Voters Support Requiring Safe Storage of Guns For Homes Where A Child Is Present
April 16, 2015 – A recent survey of registered Oregon voters conducted on behalf of Americans for Responsible Solutions finds that across the board, Oregon voters support requiring requiring safe storage of guns in a locked container for homes where a child is present.
Among the survey’s findings:
- 82% percent of voters support child access prevention laws, with 64% of voters “strongly” supporting the law.
- Additionally, 71% of gun owners support this law, including 47% of gun owners who “strongly support” it.
A memo on the new research can be found here.
This high level of support is unsurprising given that a broad majority of Oregonians – including gun owners – support expanded background checks for gun sales, with 87 percent of Oregon voters supporting expanded background checks on gun sales, and 70 percent saying they strongly support them. Eighty-three percent of Oregon gun owners also support expanded background checks on gun sales. Click here to read more.
The survey was conducted by Benenson Strategy Group and surveyed 1,000 registered Oregon voters who said they are likely to vote in the 2016 presidential election. The survey, which included an oversample of households with gun owners, was conducted by live professional interviewers between January 12-15, 2015. The margin of error is +/- 3.02 percentage points.
