Gabby Gabrielle Giffords & Mark Kelly Statement on the Tragic Shooting Spree in Kalamazoo County, Michigan

February 21, 2016 – Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and Captain Mark Kelly, the Co-Founders of the gun violence prevention organization Americans for Responsible Solutions, issued the below statement following reports of a series of shootings in Kalamazoo County, Michigan:

“Once again, another community has been shattered by gun violence. This is what the new normal looks like.”“While the details of exactly what happened last night and why are still unclear, we know that yet again gun tragedies have destroyed innocent lives. On a seemingly quiet Saturday night, as many spent time with family and friends, some became the targets of terror and gunfire. And now six Americans – including an eight-year-old child – are gone. “We wish we could call that unthinkable. But in our country, it’s not.“We are extraordinarily grateful to the first responders who acted so bravely tonight to bring this horror to an end. We grieve for those taken and their loved ones, and we pray for strength for the injured. “Our hearts are in Kalamazoo.”
