Gabby Giffords Applauds National Day of Action, Urges House to Hold Vote to Reduce Gun Violence
June 28, 2016 – Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, the Co-Founder of the gun violence prevention organization Americans for Responsible Solutions (ARS) , today issued the following statement applauding Members of the House Democratic Caucus for leading a national day of action tomorrow to urge House leadership to hold a vote on reducing gun violence.
“Just one week after the historic sit-in on the House floor, tomorrow leaders in Congress will hold yet another historic event to urge our elected officials in the U.S. House of Representatives to hold a vote on bipartisan legislation that protects the rights of law-abiding Americans, keeps guns out of the wrong hands, and saves lives,” said Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. “I want to thank Leader Pelosi, Congressman Lewis and Members of the House Democratic Caucus for leading the fight against our nation’s gun violence crisis. Speaking is difficult for me. But I haven’t been silenced. And neither should the American people. Their Representatives must vote to make our communities safer.”
The national day of action comes on the heels of a historic gun violence sit-in by members of the House of Representatives. In a letter to her former colleagues and members of the House of Representatives that was read on the floor, Congresswoman Giffords urged Congress to pass responsible change that keeps guns out of dangerous hands.
