ARS PAC Launches New Ad in New Hampshire Senate Race to Hold Senator Kelly Ayotte Accountable for Her Record of Voting to Protect Background Check Loopholes for Gun Sales
July 12, 2016 – The gun violence prevention organization Americans for Responsible Solutions PAC (ARS PAC) announced today it is airing a new 30-second ad, titled “Mislead,” in the New Hampshire Senate race to hold Senator Kelly Ayotte accountable for her record of voting to protect the loopholes in federal law that let dangerous people like felons and domestic abusers buy guns without a criminal background check in unlicensed sales at gun shows and through the internet. ARS PAC-endorsed candidate Governor Maggie Hassan has voiced her support for closing those gun show and internet loopholes in federal law.

The ad, which will also reach Granite State voters through targeted digital communications, is backed by a significant six-figure buy and will air on broadcast in the Manchester market and on statewide cable.
“Time and time again, Senator Ayotte has voted in lockstep with the Washington gun lobby to protect the loopholes that let felons and domestic abusers buy guns without a background check,” said ARS PAC Executive Director Peter Ambler. “Now, Senator Ayotte is trying to mislead voters into thinking she voted to close them. Granite Staters deserve to know who Senator Ayotte is really looking out for: the Washington gun lobby.”
Senator Ayotte has maintained consistent record in Washington of voting against more criminal background checks for gun sales. In April 2013, Senator Ayotte voted against a bipartisan proposal to close the loopholes in federal law that let felons, domestic abusers, and the dangerously mentally ill buy a gun without a criminal background check at gun shows and through the internet, even though February 2013 research found that 91 percent of New Hampshire voters – including 90 percent of gun owners – supported the measure. In December 2015 and in June 2016, Senator Ayotte once again voted to protect the loopholes in our background check system. In New Hampshire, Kelly Ayotte says: “I support fixing our background check system.”
But in Washington, Kelly Ayotte votes to keep the loophole that lets criminals get guns without a background check.
She was the only Senator in New England who sided with the Washington gun lobby.
Now, Ayotte is trying to mislead voters in order to win her election.
Kelly Ayotte looks out for herself and the Washington gun lobby, not Granite Staters.
