October 12, 2017 — In the wake of yesterday’s disparaging, partisan attacks against Virginia Delegate Kathleen Murphy, Navy combat veteran and NASA astronaut Captain Mark Kelly, the Co-Founder of Americans for Responsible Solutions PAC(ARS PAC), issued the below statement.
Captain Mark Kelly:
“Delegate Murphy and I have something in common: we both know the pain of seeing loved ones fall victim to gun violence. But after losing her brother, Delegate Murphy became a tireless advocate for stronger gunlaws to keep Virginia communities safe and spare other families the pain of losing a family member to gun violence.
“Delegate Murphy’s efforts resulted in real progress for Virginia by making it a felony for domestic abusers to possess a firearm if they are subject to a permanent protective order. The results are clear: Delegate Murphy‘s attention to this issue is making our communities safer.
“Now is the time to do something about gun violence. There is no way to direct “too much attention” to the issue when a Virginian is killed with a gun every 10 hours. Delegate Murphy is the champion Virginia needs in the Assembly, and sending her back to Richmond is the best way to keep our communities safe.”
Earlier this year, Americans for Responsible Solutions PAC endorsed Kathleen Murphyfor the Virginia House of Delegates. Throughout her distinguished career in public service, Kathleen Murphy has been a champion for responsible gun violence prevention policies and has made her commitment to the issue a major focus of her work in Richmond. Delegate Murphy has led the fight in the Virginia General Assembly to protect women and their families by keeping guns out of the hands of domestic abusers.
