Gabrielle Giffords Applauds Dick’s Sporting Goods for Taking Action to Improve Gun Safety in America

February 28, 2018 – Dick’s Sporting Goods Inc., announced this morning that it is taking new steps strengthen gun safety in America, including ending sales of assault-style rifles and banning the sale of guns to people younger than 21.

Former Representative Gabrielle Giffords issued the following statement:

“Keeping our kids safe should be the top priority for everyone in our country. Our children should be able to go to school without fear of an attack. They deserve to feel safe at home and in their communities. But that’s not the America we’re living in now. While it’s infuriating that Republican leaders on Capitol Hill continue to block meaningful progress on gun safety, it’s encouraging to see companies like Dick’s Sporting Goods step up to the plate and lead with action. American voters and companies are waking up to the scope of our nation’s gun violence crisis. They are listening to the cries for action from students. And they understand that it’s our responsibility as a society to do everything we can to prevent guns from falling into dangerous hands. When will Congress realize the same?”
