Giffords Congratulates Veronica Escobar for Emerging Victorious in Texas Primary Race

March 6, 2018 — Today, Giffords, the gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and Captain Mark Kelly, congratulated El Paso County Judge Veronica Escobar for emerging victorious in Texas’s 16th District primary race. The seat was previously held by Beto O’Rourke, now running for United States Senate. Escobar will now head on to the general election as the Democratic nominee.

Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, co-founder of Giffords:

“In the aftermath of the nation’s worst mass shootings, Veronica Escobar campaigned for Congress promising to lead the fight for safer gun laws while her opponents remained silent. Tonight, El Pasoans rewarded Veronica’s commitment to the safety of her community by making her the city’s presumptive Congresswoman and the first Latina elected to Congress from Texas. Giffords was proud to endorse Veronica and we look forward to working with her in Washington.”
