STATEMENT: Gabrielle Giffords on YouTube Shooting in San Bruno, California

April 3, 2018– Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, co-founder of the gun violence prevention organization  Giffords , issued the following statement in response to the mass shooting that took place this afternoon at YouTube headquarters in San Bruno, California:

Statement from Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords:

“It’s been 48 days since 17 people were shot to death in Parkland, Florida. It’s been 101 days since 26 people were shot to death in Sutherland Springs, Texas. It’s been 136 days since 58 people were shot to death in Las Vegas, Nevada. Every single day in America more than 90 people are killed with guns.

“How much longer do we have to wait before Congress takes action to make our communities safer from gun violence? How many more breaking news updates about active shooters do we have to live through? How many more lives will be lost?”

“Our hearts are in San Bruno today, with the victims, their families, and the heroic first responders. Come November, I’m confident that Americans will turn their frustration with a Congress that won’t act to protect our safety into a wave that will elect a Congress that will. This country has never been more angry about political inaction in the face of gun violence, and our demands for a safer future have never been louder.”
