Giffords Law Center Responds to Confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the United States Supreme Court

Washington, DC — Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence released the following statement after the Senate approved the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Hannah Shearer, Second Amendment Litigation Director at Giffords Law Center:

“The Senate’s vote to confirm Judge Kavanaugh is indefensible as he demonstrated a temperament during his hearing that is unfit for our nation’s highest court. But Judge Kavanaugh’s confirmation is also a serious cause for concern because his views on gun policy do not reflect the values and priorities of the American people, who have repeatedly demanded stronger laws in response to our gun violence crisis. Judge Kavanaugh’s extreme positions on the Second Amendment include his belief that it is unconstitutional to restrict civilian use of the dangerous, military-style weapons regularly used in mass shootings. His judicial record reflects a willingness to side with the NRA’s irresponsible agenda at the expense of the safety of our communities. It’s clear that Judge Kavanaugh will be a servant to partisanship instead of maintaining a fair and impartial judicial system for all Americans.”
