Giffords Condemns Pennsylvania House Judiciary Committee for Refusal to Advance Extreme Risk Legislation

September 24, 2019 — Giffords , the gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement in response to the Pennsylvania House Judiciary Committee’s refusal to consider extreme risk legislation this session.

Statement from Nico Bocour, state legislative director at Giffords:

“Gun violence is a problem that can’t wait to be addressed. Action must be taken now. But no matter how many lives are lost, how many neighborhoods are plagued by violence, or how many terrible events like the synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh occur—Chair Rob Kauffman continues to sit on his hands. His refusal to act while Pennsylvanians worry about gunfire in their communities is reprehensible, and it’s time the House Judiciary Committee is led by a chairman who puts Pennsylvania families first and isn’t afraid to fight for lifesaving laws.”
