Gun Safety Groups Release Statement Calling Attention to Next Week’s Historic SCOTUS Gun Case

SCOTUS to Hear Second Amendment Case on Monday, December 2nd

Gun Safety Advocates to Rally in Front of Supreme Court During Oral Argument

November 25, 2019 – Today, one week before the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the first Second Amendment case in a decade Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund, Brady and Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence released the following statement urging the Supreme Court to reject the NRA’s attacks on common-sense gun safety laws:

This week, tens of thousands of Americans will celebrate their first Thanksgiving without friends and loved ones who were killed or affected by gun violence in the last year.

Since 2013, more than 300 laws have been passed that are making our communities safer. But all that progress could change if the NRA has its way.

Next Monday, the Supreme Court of the United States will hear argument in its first Second Amendment case in nearly a decade, which could put nearly every important gun safety law at risk, potentially undoing much of the progress our movement has made in recent years – and blocking our future progress.

The NRA’s goal is clear: to cherry pick an extremely uncommon, and now nonexistent, regulation in order to advance a radical interpretation of the Second Amendment and launch a broad attack on the common sense, constitutional gun safety laws in place across the country.

If the NRA has its way, it could mean even more guns in public spaces, more guns in the hands of people who should not have them, and more dangerous guns on the streets.

We can’t let that happen – there’s just too much at stake.

Advocates of gun safety will hold a rally in front of the Supreme Court on Monday, December 2nd at 9:00AM. Media logistics will be shared in the coming days.
