Giffords Law Center Responds to Confirmation of Lawrence VanDyke to Serve on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals
December 11, 2019 — Giffords Law Center issued the following statement after the Senate approved the nomination of Lawrence VanDyke to represent Nevada on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals today:
Robyn Thomas, Executive Director of Giffords Law Center:
“Lawrence VanDyke has a long record of dangerous, irregular, and troubling views on gun policy that should immediately disqualify him from a lifetime judicial appointment. Instead, the Senate has given them their rubber stamp. Impartiality, fairness, and adherence to legal precedent are key qualities of any judge, yet VanDyke displays none of these characteristics. VanDyke’s open declaration of allegiance to the gun lobby and its agenda make him a poor choice to serve as a federal judge, and his presence on the court has the potential to threaten public safety and greatly undermine the progress that the gun safety movement has made.”
