Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords Urges Virginia Legislature to Act With Courage

February 10, 2020 —  Giffords , the gun violence prevention organization co-founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement ahead of the Virginia General Assembly crossover.

Statement from Gabrielle Giffords, co-founder of Giffords:

“Now is the time when courage counts. We’ve witnessed history this year in the Commonwealth. The voters spoke, and lawmakers in the General Assembly have made tremendous progress toward passing safer gun laws. Now it’s time to finish the job. We must meet resistance with resolve, and we must counter intimidation with a commitment to the safety of the kids and communities of Virginia.

“Survivors of gun violence have faith you will act — that you will stand up to the gun lobby in the legislature so our children won’t have to stand up to gunmen in their classrooms. You possess an irreplaceable opportunity to make Virginia safer. Thank you for your service.”
