Washington, DC — Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, co-founder of the gun safety group Giffords, released a statement as voters in Illinois, Florida, and Arizona go to the polls today, with Ohio’s primary in flux because of the coronavirus outbreak. Meanwhile, in the past 72 hours, gun violence has continued to devastate communities across America. This includes a shooting at a gas station in Missouri that killed five people, another in North Carolina that left seven family members dead, and one that killed two women in Saginaw, Michigan.
Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords:
“Right now, we need to confront crises and prevent further tragedy. To address the global health pandemic, emerging economic hardships, and gun violence in our communities, we must elect leaders who will put people before politics. As many Americans cast their vote in today’s extraordinary circumstances, I am reminded of the profound ability of this nation to unite and care for one another.”
