Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords Responds to the News that California Assemblymember Mike A. Gipson’s Son is a Victim of Gun Violence

April 9, 2020— Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, co-founder of the gun safety organization Giffords, released the following statement responding to the news of the shooting of California Assemblymember Mike A. Gipson’s son.

“Today, my heart is with Assemblymember Mike Gipson and his family. No parent should have to hear the news that their son and his fiance have been shot. I am thankful they will make a full recovery.”

“We must do more to address guns in our community and we can’t do it without gun safety champions like Mike. He turned his painful past experiences with gun violence into a story of how we can create positive change for California and the nation. We are with him during this difficult time, and look forward to working with him to pass stronger laws that will prevent gun violence from hurting our families, friends, and neighbors.”
