Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords on the Passing of Congressman John Lewis

July 18, 2020 — Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, co-founder of the gun violence prevention group Giffords, released the following statement on the passing of civil rights icon Congressman John Lewis.

“John Lewis was the best of us. Someone who lived his life always pursuing freedom and justice for every single person. He taught me nothing is ever so hard that we cannot keep going. It’s that legacy — of never backing down, of always working harder, and of continuing to fight for the greater good — that each one of us must remember and carry forward. I will miss his grace and compassion and I’ll fight every day for his vision of what America can be. It’s a very sad day for our entire nation.”
