Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords Demands Action and Accountability after Gun Violence in Kenosha, Wisconsin

August 27, 2020 — Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, co-founder of the gun safety organization Giffords, today demanded action and accountability after gun violence this week in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Her call came after police officers shot Jacob Blake in the back in front of his children and an armed vigilante from Illinois drove to the area and shot and killed demonstrators protesting Jacob’s shooting.

Statement from former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, co-founder of Giffords:

“America faces a crisis at the intersection of racism, hatred, and gun violence. This week, another Black man, Jacob Blake, was shot by the police, and another armed white supremacist is responsible for murder and mayhem. Black and Brown Americans deserve the protection of the police, rather than suffering brutality. Protesters should be heard, not attacked and intimidated. Not only is Donald Trump incapable of leading in this moment; he is fanning the division and violence that are tearing us apart and threatening our safety. We need leaders like Joe Biden and Kamala Harris who will work with us to reform policing, seek to dismantle systemic racism, and act to disarm hate.”
