Tragic Houston Shootings Remind that New Leadership is Needed to Keep Americans Safe
Washington, D.C. — Overnight a shooting at a Houston nightclub left three dead and officials in pursuit of multiple suspects while a police officer was shot and killed responding to a domestic disturbance call in a separate incident. The tragedies led Giffords, the gun safety group co-founded by Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, to remind the country that new leadership is needed to keep Americans safe.
Peter Ambler, Giffords Executive Director:
“No community should have to wake up to heartbreaking stories like this. The grief, pain, and sadness that come with gun violence should never be accepted as a normal part of life in America. This news is a reminder that all too often it is. Yet, we know it doesn’t have to be this way.
“This November, Texans have the opportunity to elect leaders who will take action to end gun violence and save lives—leaders like veteran MJ Hegar in the Senate and Sri Kulkarni in the House, who know that we cannot accept the status quo and who embrace commonsense gun safety measures. These are leaders who value the lives of Texans over the money of the gun lobby.
“As we mourn those whose lives ended suddenly and violently, we must respond with action and vote for gun safety champions.”
