Giffords Calls for Minnesota Republican Party to Revoke Endorsement of State House Candidate Donald Raleigh After his Comics Depicting Hateful Gun Violence Surface
Washington, D.C. — Today it was revealed that Republican Minnesota State House candidate Donald Raleigh published a number of disturbing and hateful comics depicting the shooting of children and government officials. Giffords, the gun safety group co-founded by Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, issued the following statement calling on the state party to revoke their endorsement and condemn the portrayals of gun violence.
Molly Voigt, Giffords State Legislative Manager:
“The Minnesota Republican Party must be direct with voters and publicly state whether or not they stand by their endorsed candidate, Donald Raleigh, after his horrific illustrations surfaced. These are not harmless sketches. Hateful rhetoric too often leads to hateful, violent actions. Raleigh’s glorification of gun violence makes Minnesotans less safe. Voters across Minnesota support gun safety measures and want leaders who are serious about addressing the gun violence crisis. They deserve better than this.”
