Judge Rejects NRA’s Bankruptcy Scam, Dealing Another Blow to Flailing Organization

Washington, D.C. — Today the National Rifle Association’s (NRA) filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy was dismissed for “not being filed in good faith.” The decision came after the group planned to reincorporate in Texas as part of an effort to avoid litigation brought by the New York Attorney General based on corruption and violations of the state’s nonprofit law. The rapid decline of the NRA is a positive development for the majority of Americans who support commonsense gun safety laws proven to save lives.

Adam Skaggs, Giffords Law Center Chief Counsel & Policy Director:

“Today’s decision is a victory for accountability. Judge Hale’s opinion makes it clear that the NRA can’t use cheap tricks to avoid the consequences of its actions, and this half-cocked scheme cannot defeat the rule of law. The NRA must answer for its lies and corruption that have defrauded its members across the country. Today’s decision brings that moment one step closer to reality.”
