Students Once Again Experience the Trauma of Gun Violence after a Shooting at a Texas High School Leaves Four Wounded

Washington, DC – High school students in Arlington, Texas were put on a lockdown after a shooting that wounded three students and one adult. Giffords Executive Director Peter Ambler called on political leaders to address the gun violence crisis and protect our children.

Peter Ambler, Giffords Executive Director:

“Once again, students in America had their lives shattered by gun violence at their school. In a place where they should feel safe, students had to hide under desks as gunfire erupted, with parents frantically trying to find out if their child was alive. We know four people were shot, and now, an entire community in Texas must grapple with the trauma inflicted by gun violence. Though words are never enough, our hearts go out to the victims of this horrific tragedy.

“We cannot accept gun violence in our schools and we need our leaders to act. We know that gun laws save lives. Yet Texas continues to pass laws like permitless carry and open carry in places like schools and airports that value gun industry profits over the lives of its citizens. We need our elected leaders in states and in Washington to have the courage to act on gun safety.”
