Giffords Endorses Keith Ellison for Attorney General in Minnesota
Washington DC — Today, Giffords PAC, the gun safety organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, announced its endorsement of Attorney General Keith Ellison for reelection in Minnesota.
Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords:
“Attorney General Ellison has worked tirelessly to deliver real results for his constituents and has made gun safety a top priority in his state. He is leading the charge to keep Minnesota communities safe by implementing and enforcing lifesaving gun safety policies. In office, Attorney General Ellison has worked hand in hand with local community leaders to bolster public safety and accountability.
“We know that commonsense gun laws save lives, but as the Supreme Court proved this month, they are under attack. Attorney General Ellison is exactly the kind of leader the people of Minnesota need in this moment – he will never give up the fight to enforce laws already on the books and to defend these measures in court. I am proud to stand behind Attorney General Ellison as he works to reduce crime and build a safer Minnesota.”
Attorney General Keith Ellison has always put the safety of his constituents first—especially when it comes to preventing gun violence. In office, Attorney General Ellison has worked directly with local community leaders across Minnesota to develop and implement programs to combat gun violence, and he has been a leader in the fight to protect sensible gun laws in court. In 2020, Attorney General Ellison joined a coalition of attorneys general from across the country in filing an amicus brief that highlighted the dangers of ghost guns, and he also recently joined a coalition of state attorneys general in defending a California law that regulates the sale of long arms and semi-automatic rifles to individuals under 21. While serving in Congress, he took part in a sit-in on the House floor to protest inaction on gun safety after the shooting at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida, and as the first Black and first Muslim attorney general of Minnesota, he has continued to push for progress on this issue.
