Fmr. Congresswoman Giffords Joins Governor Lujan Grisham for Santa Fe Phone Bank Kickoff

Santa Fe, NM —  Todayformer Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, founder of the gun violence prevention organizationGiffords PAC, joined New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham for a phone bank kickoff.

In 2018, Governor Lujan Grisham was elected to serve the citizens of New Mexico as governor, making her the first Democratic Hispanic woman to be elected to such a role in US history. In this capacity, she has been a consistent advocate for commonsense solutions to prevent gun violence in her state and has delivered results that have kept guns off the streets.

Throughout her career in public service—whether she was serving as New Mexico’s secretary of health, as a representative in the US Congress, or now as governor—Governor Lujan Grisham has always put the needs of her community first. In her first term, Governor Lujan Grisham championed bipartisan legislation that invested in public safety and increased funding for community-based violence intervention programs. She also pushed for universal background checks for gun purchases and signed legislation that allows the courts to temporarily disarm individuals who are at risk of harming themselves or others. With each piece of legislation she signed, Governor Lujan Grisham demonstrated the importance of passing measures that will save New Mexican lives and curb the scourge of gun violence, while also balancing the right to bear arms.

There is a clear choice in this election between Gov. Lujan Grisham’s record of protecting New Mexicans from gun violence and Republican Mark Ronchetti, who received an ‘A’ rating from the NRA. Ronchetti is against limiting the number of military weapons of war on our streets.
