Giffords PAC Slams Mehmet Oz’s “Plan” to Fight Crime

Washington, DC – Today, in response to Dr. Mehmet Oz’s campaign releasing a plan to fight crime which fails to adequately address gun violence in Pennsylvania, Giffords Political Director Kate Moore released the following statement:

Giffords Political Director Kate Moore:

“The plan Dr. Oz released today is nothing but a series of gun lobby talking points pieced together to seem tough on crime. If he really wanted to do something about the high rates of violence in Pennsylvania, he’d back the kinds of lifesaving policies supported by law enforcement and the majority of his potential constituents. Too many communities have been torn apart by gun violence, and allowing Mehmet Oz anywhere near the United States Senate is a risk we can’t take. There is only one candidate in the race that is serious about combating rising levels of crime and gun violence: John Fetterman.”

In 2016, Giffords PAC endorsed Republican Senator Pat Toomey for the US Senate, citing his support of commonsense gun safety measures. In April, Giffords hosted a Senate forum where Democratic candidates running for the US Senate had an opportunity to directly engage with voters on the issue and present their plans to address the state’s gun violence epidemic. Giffords PAC has endorsed Democrat John Fetterman.
