Gun Safety Wins in Massachusetts: Giffords PAC Celebrates Healey’s Win
Boston, MA — Today, Giffords PAC, the gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, congratulated Governor-elect Maura Healey for becoming Massachusetts’s first elected female governor. Giffords PAC endorsed Healey in June at a roundtable discussion with former Congresswoman Giffords and gun violence prevention leaders from across the Commonwealth.
Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords:
“Governor-elect Healey has been a fierce advocate for gun safety for years. She has dedicated her career in public service to supporting commonsense gun reforms and calling for gun manufacturers to be held liable for facilitating the illegal trafficking of firearms. As attorney general, she’s worked side-by-side with Giffords to fight for a safer future for families across Massachusetts, and she will continue to do so as governor. Congratulations, Governor-elect Healey!”
As attorney general, Governor-elect Healey worked across party lines with local, state, and federal law enforcement and with families and survivors of gun violence to support commonsense gun reforms and take illegal guns off the streets. She enforced Massachusetts’s assault weapons ban, and defeated the NRA’s efforts to stop it. Healey has been a leading advocate for strong gun laws, including banning bump stocks, expanding background checks, and supporting extreme risk protection orders. Her office sued the Trump administration to stop the deregulation of 3D-printed “ghost” guns and partnered with state law enforcement officials to prosecute ghost gun holders. Her office has also successfully defended several challenges to Massachusetts’s strong gun laws, and prosecuted individuals for gun trafficking, and dealers who violated the law.
