Giffords Florida Statement on Shooting in Pine Hills
Miami, FL — Today, Giffords Florida released a statement on a mass shooting in Pine Hills, FL. Four people were shot near a homicide scene, including two reporters from Spectrum News 13. A nine year-old girl and Spectrum News 13 reporter died.
Former Congresswoman Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (FL), Giffords Senior Advisor:
“I’m horrified and angry to learn of the tragedy in Pine Hills today. It doesn’t have to be this way. We have commonsense solutions that we can enact to address gun violence and save lives. Instead, our leaders in Florida are pushing for reckless ‘Anyone with a Gun’ permitless carry legislation that will only further endanger our communities. I pray that they listen to reason and stop this dangerous legislation from moving forward. My heart is with those impacted and the Pine Hills community. We stand with you and are committed to enact meaningful change in Florida.”
Samantha Barrios, Giffords Florida State Director:
“I am heartbroken over this afternoon’s news. No one should have to live in fear of gun violence. Our communities and children deserve better. Florida’s leaders must have the courage to act. People’s lives depend on it. We stand with the victims of today’s shooting and the Pine Hills community and will fight for ‘un futuro sin violencia.’”
